Off the northern coast of Scotland, there is an island called Orkney. In the spring of 2016, I had the opportunity to visit Orkney and experience my Scottish heritage. It is here that I walked down Victoria Road.
Ever since drawing my first portrait in a 7th grade art class, I've been captivated by the challenge of bringing forth life onto the page. The process is truly a journey, and each new portrait is much like an unfamiliar road. This road becomes familiar as the person on the page comes to life and resembles who we know them to be.
The purpose of art is to reveal beauty - even in the ordinary - and there is beauty to be revealed in each one of us.
